TRENDING: HOTELS...THE COOL,THE UNIQUE, AND THE ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS

Travelers today, can stay anywhere they want on the planet. They want to have unique and authentic experiences..."not just a head on a bed." They seek the visceral and visual when they travel. I'll share a few hotels which fit this definition, so grab your passport and let's go and have an adventure. The amazing hotel above is Hanging Gardens Resort near Ubud in Bali. There are so many beautiful properties in Bali, but this one is truly unique! It's definitely on my travel radar!

The Shangri-La Hotel in Paris' 16th arrondissement was once the residence of Napoleon Bonaparte's grand nephew. The rooms with a view of the Eiffel Tower are fabulous! Superb fine dining is available at L'Abeille, a Michelin 2 star restaurant. Tres tres chic!

To feel like a Maharaja, if only for a few nights, what could be better than staying at the Oberoi Udaivilas, built on it's own island on the banks of India's Lake Pichola. I've stayed in a number of Oberoi hotels in India and I had one big problem,....I wanted to cancel my sightseeing tours and just luxuriate in the hotel. I guess there really isn't anything wrong with that!

What do you get when you turn up the interior design volume to 11? You may just find yourself in the wild and crazy Crazy Bear Hotel in Beaconsfield England. Yes, it is way way over the top, but it looks really fun. Can you believe it was formally a 15 century coaching house?

The Hotel Indigo in Hong Kong features a number of stunning architectural features like the glass bottom swimming pool which hangs over the side of the building, and the translucent staircase.

Bangkok's iconic Chao Phraya river is alive with energy in this frenetic and beautiful city. The "Temple of Dawn", or Wat Arun, sits like a golden jewel on the river bank. The Arun Residence overlooks Wat Arun creating a fabulous view from the terrace! Years ago, while visiting Wat Arun, Marla had an epiphany which she has never forgotten!

Dreamlike and almost too good to be true is how I envision Hotel le Moulin Du Roc in France's Perigord region. On a terrace like this I may not be able to EVER leave! "Yes...I will have more wine please!"

Designer Marcel Wanders, called the Lady Gaga of the design world, and Yoo Design collaborated on the Mira Moon Hotel in Hong Kong. It's totally fresh and bold with the interior design and the colors used. The room above is the "Moonshine Suite." I love the bright red lacquer, a symbol of luck in China.

Sometimes a BIG splurge is called for and the Hotel Imperial in Vienna is the perfect place for it! Originally built in 1863 for Prince Philip of Wurttemberg, it was turned into a hotel in 1873. The elegant suite above is for channeling your former royal
self.

This is a hotel which could only be imagined by dreaming. The Bangkok Tree House Hotel, near the Chao Phraya river, is totally unique in it's vision and bold design concept. The hotel is exceptionally eco-friendly and assembled with many found materials. Travelers can only get here by foot, by boat, or by bike.

High in the Swiss alps overlooking Lake Lucerne is Hotel Villa Honegg. I would love to take a winter swim and just marvel at the views.

Marla & I love the island of Koh Samui, an hours flight from Bangkok. We have hosted Wesco Fabrics' clients here in the past and they loved it as well. The sleepy little fishing village of Bophut has received a big dose of style with the The Library Hotel. The red colored floor in the guest room above is amazingly dramatic, and the red tiled swimming pool continues the theme.

Imagine a resort 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle, with incredibly fresh air and streams so pure you can safely take a drink from them. The place is called Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Finland. You can stay in glass igloos or cozy cabins.

The Halcyon Hotel just opened in Denver's Cherry Creek area last week. The mission of developer,Sage Hospitality, was to create an upscale "homey feel, like staying with a friend - a very well off friend." Each room has a turntable with vinyl records. Included with the cost of the stay are e-bikes and Vespa motor scooters. At the "Gear Garage", guests can borrow GoPros, a vintage Leica M3 camera with a roll of film that the hotel will have developed for you, fly-fishing gear, and bicycles. The hotel has a roof top pool and two new restaurants will be opening soon. The Halcyon Hotel will definitely be a big hit in the Denver market!
